A Lord of Sacrificial Love

He who brought light into the darkness,
and hung the earth upon the waters;
who fashioned clothes for Adam,
though He knew what it would cost;

He who painted the rainbow as a promise,
and called Abraham away from home;
who provided a sacrifice in place of Isaac,
yet this cup would not pass from Him;

He who spoke to Moses from the bush,
and delivered the Israelites on Passover;
who forged the commandments in stone,
realizing that His people would soon fall away;

He who sustained Israel in the wilderness,
and opened the way to the Promised Land;
who broke the sword of their oppressors,
even after they asked for another king;

He who spared a remnant from His wrath,
and sent word of a coming Messiah;
who announced the good news to Mary,
that He would make his dwelling among us;

He who taught a new way to the Father,
and restored the sight of the blind;
who showed His disciples how to serve,
knowing it was time for scripture to be fulfilled;

Today, He was hung on a tree,
For you and for me.
